Merck settles Canadian Vioxx lawsuits for $37 million

“Drugmaker Merck & Co…has reached a deal to settle all lawsuits in Canada over
its recalled painkiller Vioxx for up to 36.9 million Canadian dollars.” It
adds that Merck and plaintiffs’ representatives “have signed the agreement, which is
awaiting approval by courts in Canada’s provinces,” as the company denied wrongdoing.
Last November, Merck “agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge that
it marketed Vioxx as a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis before getting Food and
Drug Administration approval.” (AP – January 20, 2012). If you or a family member has been the victim of medical negligence, contact Kevin J. McNamara Law Offices, P.C. at 312-201-8850 today for a free consultation.
